‘Passionate about Plants’
Jubilee Nursery at Ridgeway is now closed.
Ted Cutlan and Joy Stones would like to thank all our wonderful customers for buying their rare or unusual plants at our nursery. We will continue to grow plants as it is our passion and you will see them in our garden in spring.
Our garden in Jubilee Road (Cascades) will be open in spring 2011 for six Saturdays. There will also be some plant sales at the garden.
JUBILEE NURSERY 73 Hall Street, Ridgeway, Hobart.
The nursery at Ridgeway will be open:
The dates will also be advertised in the Mercury classified gardening section on Saturdays.
Joy and Ted grow all those rare or unusual plants which are hard to find in other nurseries. We have a huge range of choice, rare or unusual, deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, including the best range of rhododendrons in Australia also Japanese maples, camellias, magnolias, viburnums, unusual hydrangeas, cornus, conifers, and much more. We grow many old favourites, newer introductions, fragrant plants and plants for autumn colour. We produce all our own rhododendrons and we propagate the majority of our plants ourselves from cuttings, grafting or seed. This includes grafting a range of maples and ornamental trees. Some of our plants will be for sale at our OPEN GARDEN.

The garden has a backdrop of tall eucalypts and views of Mount Wellington and is bounded by a creek. Garden opening times are advertised on this website and in the gardening section of the local newspaper (The Mercury).
In our garden we feel that plants should have more than one garden attribute. With this in mind we look for autumn colour as well as floral effect, leaf colour, foliage effect, plant shape, flowering time and ease of growing the plant.
It is a ‘natural garden’ with winding paths through plantings of lush and varied foliage including Japanese maples. The flower display includes rhododendrons, camellias, crab apples, viburnums, bulbs and perennials and is always changing.
Jubilee Gardens has been open in spring for a number of years both on the ‘Australian Open Garden Scheme’ and privately. As with all gardens Jubilee Gardens is always changing with trees being removed to let in light or pruned to give space to other plants.
At times plants are replaced or moved and some parts of the garden are being reworked. On the Open Days Joy and Ted will be available to explain how they create and maintain their garden.
Our garden is a place where we trial a huge variety of plants. The site creates difficulties at times with poor drainage, only 15cm of soil and hot northerly winds in summer. This is overcome with raised beds, good mulching and a regular fertilisation program.
It is a place of peace and relaxation.
